How Much Does Denim Repair Cost in the UK?
By Cosmin Diaconu, Founder of Repair My Denim
It’s one of the first things people want to know before they book a repair. And it’s a fair question — because if the repair costs almost as much as a new pair of jeans, the whole thing stops making sense.
So let’s talk about it honestly. What does professional denim repair actually cost in the UK, what affects the price, and is it worth it?
The Short Answer
Professional denim repair in the UK is significantly cheaper than replacing your jeans — especially if those jeans are a quality brand you love. Most repairs fall well within the range that makes financial sense, even before you factor in the cost and hassle of finding a replacement pair that fits as well as the ones you already own.
At Repair My Denim, we keep our pricing straightforward and transparent. You can see the full breakdown of services and prices on our services page.
What Affects the Price of a Denim Repair?
Not all repairs are the same, and the cost reflects the complexity of the work involved. Here are the main factors:
The type of repair. A small tear in a single location is a simpler job than a fully worn-through crotch on both sides, which requires internal reinforcement patching, colour-matched external stitching, and careful finishing on two separate areas. The more involved the work, the more it costs — but even complex repairs remain a fraction of what new jeans would set you back.
The size of the damage. A small snag caught early is quicker to repair cleanly than a large hole that has been left to spread. This is one of the reasons we always recommend not waiting. The sooner you send your jeans in, the simpler — and often cheaper — the repair.
The number of repairs on one pair. Many customers send jeans with more than one issue — a crotch repair and a pocket repair, for example, or a torn seam alongside a button replacement. Combining repairs on a single pair is always more cost-effective than sending them back multiple times.
The specific service. Some repairs, like zip replacements, can occasionally take a little longer if a specific part needs to be sourced. This affects turnaround time more than price, but it’s worth knowing upfront.
The Most Common Repairs and What to Expect
Here’s a general guide to what different types of repairs involve, so you know what you’re paying for:
Crotch repair is our most requested service. This involves an internal denim reinforcement patch behind the damaged area, combined with colour-matched external stitching. We recommend repairing both sides at the same time — the fabric on the opposite side is almost always thinning too, and repairing both together prevents you from being back with the same problem in a few months.
Tear and hole repair covers small rips anywhere on the jeans — knees, back panels, thighs, belt loops. Internal patching plus external stitching, finished to blend with the surrounding fabric as closely as possible.
Pocket repair involves rebuilding damaged front pocket openings or reinforcing weakened pocket fabric. Pockets take daily stress and are a common failure point even on well-made jeans.
Zip repair or replacement fixes or replaces a broken zip. Most zips can be repaired directly; replacements are sometimes necessary and may require a specific part to be ordered, which can extend the turnaround slightly.
Button replacement uses professional-grade 17mm screw-on metal buttons in copper or nickel — the same standard used in quality denim manufacturing, not a cheap substitute.
Seam repair and hem alterations cover everything from split side seams to original hem preservation and standard hem shortening.
Full pricing for each service is listed on our services page.
Is Denim Repair Worth the Cost?
Let’s put it in perspective.
A quality pair of jeans — Levi’s, Lee, Wrangler, GANT, or any premium label — costs anywhere from £60 to several hundred pounds. A professional repair costs a small fraction of that. Even on a straightforward financial basis, repair wins.
But there’s more to it than the numbers. Finding a new pair of jeans that fits as well as the pair you’ve been wearing for three years is genuinely difficult. Denim softens and moulds to your body over time. The fade is unique to you. The fit has settled exactly the way you like it. A new pair — even the same model — won’t feel the same on day one.
This is why so many of our customers describe repair as the obvious choice once they’ve done it once. One customer told us they were “absolutely desperately in need of a repair” because finding jeans they love is hard, and they simply wanted to keep what they had. Another said their damaged jeans were “rejuvenated completely” and it was “hard to tell they were ever damaged at all.”
That’s what a good repair delivers. Not just a fix — the return of something you already love.
What About Cheap Repairs?
It’s worth saying: not all repair services charge the same, and the difference in price often reflects a real difference in outcome.
A very cheap repair — done with the wrong thread, a stiff patch, or without proper colour matching — can leave your jeans looking worse than before. The repair becomes visible, the fabric puckers, or the reinforcement changes how the denim sits and moves.
At Repair My Denim, every repair uses professional denim thread, colour-matched to your jeans. Every repair includes internal reinforcement — not just surface stitching. And every repair is done in-house by an experienced tailor. No outsourcing, no shortcuts.
The goal is always a repair you can’t see and a pair of jeans that lasts.
